Gina Galaviz filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in federal court Friday.

The former reporter for KSAT has filed the lawsuit against the television station, alleging gender discrimination.

Ex-Reporter Gina Galaviz filed the wrongful termination lawsuit in federal court Friday.

The lawsuit states that Galaviz worked as a police beat reporter for KSAT for a period of 10 years until she was fired after being arrested for assault in July of 2007. The assault involved an incident between Galaviz and her fiancé.

Bruised-up gal-pal Gina Galaviz, KSAT TV reporter, is stunned that ex-lover SA City Councilman Ron "Bruiser" Segovia has walked on charges of assault.

A Bexar Grand Jury has no-billed the case.

"I find myself asking, 'Did none of this even happen? Was I not bruised up?' I just can't believe it," Galaviz said, crying, according to Express-News.

"I hope this does not stop any woman from coming forward. I encourage them to not be afraid."

Bruiser faced felony and misdemeanor charges following an altercation with Galaviz when they lived together. (See stories below.)

District 3's fruit-tossing Councilman Ron "Bruiser" Segovia has yet to be arrested on any charge, despite the fact that City Police presented two cases of assault -- one felony, one misdeameanor -- to the Bexar District Attorney almost 4 weeks ago.

Segovia is accused of roughing up his then-girlfriend KSAT TV live-in reporter Gina Galaviz. He bruised her in the back with a thrown apple. She says he also waved a Glock pistol at her during an early morning argument. (See stories archived below, in reverse order.)

If arrested, tried and convicted on the weapons charge, Segovia would face up to 20 years in the State pen. The apple assault could bring up to 1 year in jail, along with fines.

Local media have done little on this story. It may be that their silence suggests forgiveness, or indifference. Or it could be that, because the victim in this embarrassing situation is a colleague, they are shy to pursue it.

But what message is sent forth by this unresolved issue? In a time when domestic violence is rampant, it seems like a City Councilman should be held to the same standards as the commoners like us.

While the DA mulls the case, Segovia has been busy trying to shine the image of his tarnished reputation. The former cop even went so far as to ride along with police in a highly publicized crackdown on Military Drive, following a shooting that wounded 5 in early September.

That's right. The "Bruiser" was back in a cruiser, cleaning up the streets.

He's also advocating a sales tax increase to create a Law Enforcement and Crime Control District. Roughly $17 million a year for police. Part of that money would also be used for anti-crime programs that target, among other things, domestic abuse.

Oh, the irony!

No word from the DA yet on the outcome of this case, but insiders say we should know, one way or the other, soon.

Standing by.

The DA's office is reviewing charges filed by San Antonio police against SA City Councilman Ron 'Bruiser' Segovia for roughing up his gal pal and live-in lover Gina Galviz, KSAT TV crime reporter, at his home in July. (See related stories below.)

Segovia admits hurling an apple at Galaviz and striking her in the back. But he denies brandishing his Glock pistol as she claims.

If the DA proceeds, Segovia would face a class A misdemeanor in the first assault,

and a second degree felony on the weapons charge.

If tried and convicted on the weapons charge, Segovia would face up to 20 years in the State pen. The apple assault could bring up to 1 year in jail. Various fines would also apply to both cases.

But will the DA act?

The Police union has already applied pressure to the SAPD to play down the incident. Also, no word yet on an investigation by Internal Affairs into conduct by officers who answered the early-morning 911 call at Segovia's home. Segovia is a former cop.

A prediction from the Snitch:

Segovia will likely face the simple assault charge. After all, he has already admitted doing it.

Segovia will likely NOT face the felony weapons charge. No witnesses, other than He and She, were present. So unless he confesses to that one, too, he will probably walk.

If and when he is charged, expect it on a late Friday afternoon, or some other low key time of a low key day.

Brings up an interesting point.

Now that both the Mayor and 'Bruiser' are under criminal investigations, and with the recent convictions of former City Fathers Prado, Martin, and Sanders on corruption charges...how many City Hallers could occupy a single cell, before it constituted an official Council meeting?

City Councilman Ron "The Bruiser" Segovia whipped out a fast one Monday, when HE filed for a protective order against the woman who has accused him of assault, and who claims he pointed a loaded Glock pistol at her.

The hearing was supposed to detail Segovia's actions in a July altercation at his home, and to determine what threat he might be to his ex livein girlfriend.

Earlier this month KSAT TV cop beat reporter Gina Galaviz had filed for -- and gotten -- a temporary protection order against the District 3 Councilman. The action stemmed from a weekend of escalating "love spats" that ended with a call to 911. (See previous stories below.)

Insiders say the Councilman's surprise request for court-ordered protection was simply a ploy; and a not-so-veiled threat that he would air whatever dirty laundry is still piled up in the clothes hamper of love, now gone bad.

The cheap trick worked, and lawyers wrangled for about an hour in private, before agreeing to an injunction that would apply to both parties. The romance is now officially -- and by order of the court-- kaput.

Meanwhile Segovia, who has admitted assaulting and bruising Galaviz, remains under investigation. He continues to deny brandishing a gun.

An internal affairs investigation of police conduct at the scene is also in progress. Segovia is a former policeman.

SAN ANTONIO'S ROYALTY
Councilman Admitted Assault
So Why Isn't He In Jail?
The Political Snitch

Are City Councilpersons above the law?

It is starting to look that way.

District 3 Councilman Ron Segovia has admitted he threw an apple at gal pal Gina Galaviz. He admitted that he did it in anger. Galaviz had at least one visible bruise from the attack.

And as Express-News reported, it was not the first time a 911 call had come from the Segovia home. 9 other dispatches have been recorded in recent years.

For some reason City police called to the scene saw fit to disregard practically every guideline and rule required in a domestic dispute. Whether it was because Segovia is on the Council, or because he is a former cop is unclear. But you can bet it was one, or the other, or both.

Segovia has not admitted brandishing his Glock pistol at the Channel 12 news reporter. Galaviz says otherwise.

From the Texas Statutes:

§ 22.01. ASSAULT. (a) A person commits an offense if the person: (1) intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another, including the person's spouse; (2) intentionally or knowingly threatens another with imminent bodily injury, including the person's spouse; or (3) intentionally or knowingly causes physical contact with another when the person knows or should reasonably believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative. (Click For Complete Statute.)

Perhaps the bruise Segovia gave Galaviz is not of sufficient size to be called an "injury." Perhaps hurling a fruit roughly the size, shape and weight of a major-league baseball at the back of a woman is permissible. Wife-beaters will take note. This could be a valuable loophole.

The Political Snitch makes fun of many things, but domestic violence is not one of them. It is completely unacceptable. Violence against women is never acceptable.

NEVER.

Segovia should resign. Immediately

And his fruit-flinging, gun-toting, City-Council-sitting butt should go directly to jail.

He and others need to learn that they are not above the law.

City Councilman Ron Segovia is no stranger to cops and assault accusations at his Southside house.

So frequent were the 911 calls that one insider wag has labeled the homestead "The Segovia Substation."

According to the Express-News, cops were called to Segovia's house at least 9 other times in the last 3 years. One of those calls was for an assault, another for a "911 hang-up," and the nature of other dispatches were unspecified in police records.

E-N reports that "at least" 5 calls. including the assault, involved Segovia and yet another ex-girlfriend named Regina Gonzales. (Click for E-N Story)

Love stinks for at least one City official.

San Antonio Councilman Ron Segovia is likely to be charged "within the next few days" in the wake of a weekend altercation with his girlfriend and KSAT TV reporter Gina Galaviz, insiders tell the SAL Snitch. (See previous story below.)

Meanwhile, there are questions arising over how the responding officers reacted at the scene.

Also, Internal Affairs is said to be looking into why investigators deviated from the standard procedures in domestic abuse cases when they went to the scene at Segovia's house early Sunday.

Segovia is a former SA cop.

Immediate questions:

Did Segovia get special treatment because he is a sitting Councilman?

Do former SA police officers rate a "different kind of justice?"

What charges, if any, will be brought?

* * *

Just like the story of Adam and Eve, it all began with an apple.

In an angry food fight at the Councilman's house on Saturday, Galaviz threw a hamburger at the City Councilman. He admits he returned fire with the piece of fruit, and that it struck Galaviz in the back and caused a bruise. The Councilman claims he was aiming a little bit lower. (See previous story below.)

The next day, in yet another argument, Galaviz says the Councilman pointed his Glock pistol at her. The Councilman denies that.

That's when Galaviz says she called police.

Lesser questions:

What kind of apple was involved?

And where did the hamburger come from?

Those questions should be answered in due course. The Snitch is standing-by to dish you the answers.

Galaviz has filed for and received court ordered protection from the Councilman. She has now officially ended the 4 month romance.

No word on who got custody of the fruit.

The investigation continues.
