| (Editor's Note: In view of
Leticia Van de Putte's allegations of 'racial
comments' by an unnamed Texas GOP senator --
apparently only heard by her -- the Lightning
presents a series of columns that ran during
the Dem's seanate walkout earlier this year,
which highlight Van de Putte's own racial
slurs. They are archived in reverse order.) 8-21-2003
As "ethnically
challenged" Texas State Senator Leticia
Van de Putte throws racial slurs against
"whites," part of the funds that
pay her way through exile in New Mexico are
provided through the sale of Confederate
flags.
That's right. Dixie flags.
These are the same flags
which Democrats have loudly lambasted as
"racial symbols." They are an
important part of the inventory at her
husband's business, and help bankroll her
extravagant meal ticket in Albuquerque.

Company)
Her husband's name is Pete.
The company is called Dixie Flag. Jenny
Barron, national sales manager for the firm
said the Confederate flag business is pretty
seasonal.
"We sell a lot of flags
to schools," she told the Lightning.
We mention this only because
liberal politicians, Democrats in particular,
have long made the Dixie flag a racial issue.

Now, any sane person knows
that a flag such as this is no more racial
than a sheet purchased at a Penny's white
sale. It is the use to which such items are
put that brand them. Racial hatred is never
to be tolerated, whether it is the KKK or a
big mouthed Texas State Senator.

In fairness, we offer Senator
Van de Putte unedited space in this
publication to respond, should she so wish.

Van de Putte has a secret plan for paying the
tab on her petulant jaunt to New Mexico, and
that plan calls for the use of political
contributions in her office holder's account,
though she claims it's all coming out of her
pocket, the Lightning has learned.
Van de Putte has repeatedly
said that she took a loan on her life
insurance to cover her hefty expenses. The
Lightning has learned than Van de Putte
averages more than $70 per day on meals
alone. Her room at Albuquerque's plush
Marriott Pyramid North is known to run over
$150 per night. (Click

Van de Putte is already
fading heat over racist remarks against
"white Republicans." (See
story below)
In an interview on KTSA's
Carl Wiglesworth show Monday, Van de Putte
refused to agree to allow her expenses to be
scrutinized by an independent CPA, for which
the Lightning had offered to pay. When pinned
down, she also refused to rule out using
campaign contributions to pay her expenses,
saying only that so far she hasn't done that.
-Other Developments-
Likening herself to civil
rights legend Rosa Parks, Van de Putte
told AP "If
you shove us to the back of the bus, if
you disrespect our constituents, then
yeah, it's going to be very difficult to
work together." I never knew Rosa
Parks, but I am pretty sure Leticia Van
de Putte is no Rosa Parks.
Nick names are now making
the rounds. "Queen Leticia" is
one. "Litigious Van Dispute" is
another.
Also, it appears the
vacationing senators may be outliving
their welcome. New Mexico residents are
beginning to gripe about the $12,000 plus
spent on State Police protection. (Click

The Lightning has also
learned that the some on the housekeeping
staff at the Marriot have been angered by
what one room maid has called "Texas
rudeness" on the part of some
senators, though Marriot management will
not officially comment on that.
