A NOTE
FROM CARL
Wiglesworth Speaks...Again
Carl Wiglesworth, SAL Commentary
To each of
you who have been so very kind, and to the rest who
have been so very tolerant, I owe you more thanks
than I can put on this digital piece of paper.
To you, I am on occasion informative, sometimes
angering, and when I'm lucky a bit humorous;
very often stupid, or when at my very best,
inspiring.
To me, you are one thing. And that is
"Everything."
For me and Laurie, beloved son John David, and the
12-year-old Princess, you are the "all"
that we have.
For 28 years, each day has begun with "thank
you, Lord for giving me the love of my family and
friends, for each and every one of the people who
will be with me on the air, and in their homes, and
in their cars today."
The people I have worked with from every
department of KTSA have given me so much more than I
gave.
My fellow
on-air people -- Trey, Brad, Eliza, Ricci, Jack, Liz,
Brent, Officer Mike -- these were the best
I have ever worked with in my
many years of being a radio guy.
And thank YOU, every owner of every business who have
been with me so many years. You entrusted me with the
opportunity to tell the reasons that merit your
patronage.
Though I
can no longer speak for these patrons, I promise you,
you can trust them. They are each one, sound and
true. I would not have championed them otherwise.
The house that I live in, the car that I drive, the
food that I eat, are all made possible by the
exchange we have made. My work for your time. I was
diligent in this bargain on your, and my, behalf.
As I am sure you know, this is a very difficult
time for me. Through all of the clouds and shadows of
all my years, the only thing I can compare it with is
something that happened, as all important things
do,long ago.
* * *
I
was a 16 year old. Skinny, big eared, awkward. A kid
with acne who fell into "absolutely true love,
forever and ever love," with the only girl who
would ever exist for me, forever and ever. Amen.
Her name
was Patti Ruth Fox.
When the
"it had to happen" happened, and she said
we were "breaking up," I could hear my own
heart breaking.
So many
little pieces. So much little sleep. So many tears.
So much pain.
There was
no end. There was no light. It was truly going to
last until there would be no more of me. It was
"the end."
Of course, all of you who are over 16 know that even
the most brutally broken hearts mend, though the
stitches remain visible forever.
The sleep
does return to our nights, and even the sun comes out
from behind the clouds on a regular basis.
This will, again, happen for me, I am sure.
The kindness, the love, the wonderful words you
write, and say, and send to me, bring me through each
of these long days.
Thank,
you, my true and dear friends.

As to our
plans:
At the
moment I see nothing for me in radio, though I
desperately wish there would be. I will not go to
another city. You are our neighbors and this town is
our home.
I will
find a way to make a living right here.
Along that
line of thought, Laurie and I have a BIG reputation
in a SMALL circle of friends for making Bar B Que and
chili, so on August 1st we will open "Carl
Wiglesworth's Grand Champion Bar B Que" and
"Chili."
It will
just be a little concession trailer on the access
road at the Fair Oaks Parkway exit on I-10.
We really
do make good food, and if you don't enjoy it, you'll
will get your money back.
Laurie and
I even have a little slogan.
"YOU
LIKE IT....OR I BUY IT." ...pretty good, huh?

Finally:
(God, Carl, you always were long winded, almost as
bad as Bill Clinton.)
If it should be that you and I never meet in person,
or on the radio again, please know that I will always
maintain a sacred place in this heart...for you...for
me...and the times we have shared with each other. I
will never forget.
I put you there on my heart's mantle.
Right
beside Patti Ruth.
